For the first time, DeepOcean completes subsea dredging operations remotely from shore

DeepOcean, an integrated provider of safe, exceptional, and cutting-edge technology and services for the subsea industry with headquarters in Oslo, recently announced that it has successfully concluded remote seabed dredging operations for the client Aker BP ASA.

This innovative accomplishment demonstrates how complex ROV operations could potentially be carried out from an onshore operations centre.

The dredging was done using DeepOcean's ROVs aboard the vessel Edda Fauna. Remota's ROC outside of Haugesund, Norway, was the headquarters for onshore activities. Østensjø Rederi, DeepOcean, and Solstad Offshore ASA are partners in the joint venture Remota.

While a modern remote operations centre (ROC) and a dependable satellite link enable various subsea activities to be carried out from onshore, subsea dredging entails excavation and silt disposal on the seabed.

According to the company, With the delivery of the Unmanned Service Vessel (USV) later in 2024 and its long-term charter to DeepOcean, this most recent development in remote subsea operations is paving the way. Significant cost and carbon reductions can only be achieved through remote operations.
