Van Oord has finished setting up and burying inter-array cables at CrossWind's Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm in the Dutch North Sea. In close proximity to the beach town of Egmond aan Zed, the offshore wind farm is situated 18.5 km off the Dutch coast.
A 66 kV inter-array grid was developed by Van Oord for the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm. The cables were provided by the Dutch firm TKF (Twentsche Kabelfabriek). The inter-array cables were installed by Nexus, which had a large cable carousel with a 5,000 tonne capacity. Van Oord was selected by Crosswind, a joint venture between Shell and Eneco, to handle all aspects of the offshore wind farm's balance of plant. Van Oord's duties as a contractor for the Balance of Plant include the design, engineering, procurement, transport, and installation of the inter-array cables and the transport and installation of the actual wind turbines.
