Exciting news from the North West of England as two leading energy companies, SSE and EET Hydrogen, have united to develop a cutting-edge green hydrogen production facility! Known as Gowy Green Hydrogen, this innovative project is set to make waves at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.
With a projected 40MWe facility, Gowy Green Hydrogen will supply industrial offtakers in the region, helping them decarbonize their operations and secure valuable jobs. The project takes its name from the nearby River Gowy and the Gowy Meadows Nature Reserve, blending industrial advancement with environmental consciousness.
The UK is charging ahead with its low-carbon hydrogen goals, aiming for 10GW of production by 2030, and Gowy Green Hydrogen is a key player in this mission. It could be operational as early as 2028, with feasibility studies already completed and design and site investigation works in progress. A planning application is expected to be submitted by 2025, ahead of the final investment decision.
SSE, the UK’s clean energy leader, is at the forefront of hydrogen development, expanding its portfolio to include both green and blue hydrogen production, storage, and power generation.
