The Norwegian Offshore Directorate permitted the initial phase of production on the Hanz accumulation in the Ivar Aasen field in the North Sea for well 7220/2-2 in production licence 1080. This field will be developed using subsea templates connected to the Ivar Aasen platform about twelve kilometres south.
The development look at involves reusing the subsea installations from the Jette field, which was decommissioned in 2016. The Hanz oil and gas field is located in the middle North Sea, 12 km north of the Ivar Aasen field, and has a sea depth of 115 metres. The Ivar Aasen field is positioned on Utsira High in the northern North Sea, approximately 175 kilometres west of Karmøy.
The project is at present in the commissioning stage which is projected to begin commercial production in 2024. The final investment decision (FID) for the project was issued in 2021. The development cost is projected to be $571 million. The Hanz conventional oil development will entail the drilling of about two wells and a subsea tree.
According to Tomas Mørch, Assistant Director of Licence Management at the Norwegian Offshore Directorate, developing Hanz using existing infrastructure and an alternate approach for pressure support helps optimise resource use.
Aker BP holds 35% of production licence 028 B, alongside Equinor (50%) and Sval Energi (15%) as the other licensees.
Aker BP estimated recoverable resources, primarily oil, at 3.1 million standard cubic metres of oil equivalent (19.65 million bbl o.e), with start-up projected in the first quarter of 2024. The first oil from Ivar Aasen was produced in December 2016. This field grabs power from the coast, which reduces CO2 emissions.
