Elogen joins the AquaVentus offshore wind-to-hydrogen initiative

Elogen has entered the German offshore AquaVentus wind-to-hydrogen initiative. As part of its continued efforts to promote a sustainable future, Elogen hopes to support this industrial endeavor through its work in offshore electrolysis.

AquaVentus aims to produce one million tons of green hydrogen annually using wind energy in the North Sea and pipeline transportation to land. Along the whole value chain, more than 100 businesses, organisations, and research facilities are establishing benchmarks in Europe and across the globe. Ten gigawatts of generation capacity will be realised by the broad-based project family, which includes the demonstration, transportation infrastructure, and constantly growing parks.

After acquiring Elogen in 2020, GTT has concentrated on increasing the business's manufacturing capacity. By 2030, Elogen wants to have at least 400 MW of electrolysis capacity commercialised annually.

AquaVentus also includes several ongoing sub-projects aimed at increasing North Sea hydrogen production. These include the European research area AquaCampus, the demonstration AquaPrimus, and the hydrogen pipeline AquaDuctus, which forms the "hydrogen backbone" of the North Sea.

An essential component of the German hydrogen core network, the AquaDuctus pipeline is Germany's contribution to the construction of a hydrogen pipeline network in the North Sea. With a target of 1 GW, SEN-1 will serve as a demonstration facility for hydrogen generation at sea as part of the National Hydrogen Strategy.
